LEGEND OF ZELDA v0.7-alpha for the TI-89
----------------------------------------

1) INTRODUCTION

This game is a clone of the classic 8-bit NES game, Legend of Zelda. It is only about 80% complete but still has a high degree of functionality including large maps, weapons, dungeons, items, secrets and enemies. The enemies in the overworld can not interact with Link and there are currently no enemies in the dungeons.

2) HOW TO START LEGEND OF ZELDA ON A TI-89

REQUIREMENTS TO RUN: ~120 kB RAM, ~180 kB flash memory (before archiving files on calc)

a) Copy and archive the binary executable TI-89 files on your calculator

 UNCOMPRESSED OPTION
 (requires a shell for execution, Unios recommended -> http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/131/13190.html)

 LegZelda.89z (62 KB)
 LoZ_Arch.89y (30 KB)

 Total= ~92 KB

 COMPRESSED OPTION (does not require a shell for execution)

 LegZelda.89z (2 KB)
 LegZelda.89y (30 KB)
 LoZ_Arch.89y (30 KB)

 Total= ~62 KB

NOTE: It is recommended to archive these files in the flash memory (F1 + 8).

b) Execute legzelda() on your TI-89

NOTE: LoZ_Arch.89y contains 4 compressed files that will be extracted and archived on your calculator. A save file will also be created and archived on your calculator:

 loz_save.LofZ (6 KB)
 loz_dat1.LofZ (5 KB)
 loz_dat2.LofZ (59 KB)
 loz_dat3.LofZ (36 KB)
 lofz_dll.DLL  (13 KB)

 Total= ~120 KB

3) AFTER EXECUTING GAME

The MODE key can be used to toggle preservation of the 4 extracted files in archive memory for faster loading. Toggle the MODE key to "Retain All" to keep the extracted files or to "Retain None" to delete the extracted files.

Furthermore, if you choose to "Retain All" of the extracted files, you can delete LoZ_Arch.89y from your calculator as it is no longer needed.

For instant play, use the uncompressed binary exe and use the MODE key to "Retain All"

4) HOW TO PLAY

See the "Game Keys.gif" image for a simple key map.

For some advanced game control such as walkthrough walls, high speed play and item inventory control, see the "Advanced Control Keys.txt" file.
